After waiting two years for a piece of Randy Zeiber’s botryoidal [bubble] alabaster, I lucked out when he brought some to Silver falls in September ’04. Having first pick of the lot, I chose a 122 lb. biscuit-shaped piece 24 inches in diameter and 12 inches thick.  The minute I saw it I knew I would sculpt a Chambered Nautilus. What a fantastic stone to carve! It was very dense, beautifully translucent, and rang like a bell. I am very pleased with the finished sculpture. I sewed a donut-shaped sandbag covered with velvet for the base, and my partner, Mike, built a light box for them. The title is “GLOW.” I finished it just in time for my October show at the Port Townsend Co-op Gallery.
