You won't find it on the shelves of many bookstores, and it may not be for everyone, but ART CALENDAR is probably the most comprehensive, single source of national information for the professional-wannabe artist. Their trademark is "The Business Magazine for Visual Artists."

Samples of some of the articles in the June issue are:

  • Working with Foundries
  • Hang: A Fresh Approach (about the new Hang gallery in San Francisco, whose motto is "emerging artists for emerging collectors"-couldn't we use one like that in Seattle!)
  • Doing Outdoor Art Installations

But their real claim to fame is their Listings Section-"The Most Comprehensive Free Listings in the World"-16 pages of opportunities in the June issue. Everything from grants to gallery opportunities and juried shows, from Washington to Florida.

They also offer a number of monographs and books on such subjects as art marketing, understanding jurors, obtaining grants, building portfolios, starting a co-op gallery, making a living as an artist, and business and legal aspects for artists.

The magazine is published monthly (except August), and subscriptions are $32 per year (deductible as a business expense). If you would like more information, you can contact them at P.O. Box 199, Upper Fairmount, MD 21867, phone 410 651-9150, or visit their web site at www.artcalendar.com. oTo
