Abstract on Orcas Island

Are you interested in Abstract stone sculpture? Do you want to know more about its 20th/21st century origins and evolution? Would you like to connect with other sculptors who share your interest, including abstract specialists Tom Small and Anthony Kaufmann, plus contemporary art gallery owner Lynn White? Then signup for this dynamic weekend workshop to be held on lovely Orcas Island. This event will combine multi-media presentations, group discussions, clay modelling, good food and Island recreation time.

Dates: Friday, September 26th - Sunday, September 28th, 2014 at Michael E. Yeaman Studio, Orcas Island, WA

Class Cost: $149 (Includes 2 lunches, 1 dinner, modelling clay) Members Cost $130 Early Bird Registration by June 19th Save $5

Additional Costs to be paid by individual attendees: 

• Transportation to Orcas Island (Including ferry costs)
• Additional Meals: 2 breakfasts, 1 dinner, drinks, etc.
• Accomodations for 2 nights on Orcas Island (multiple choices including low cost options at Golden Tree Hostel and camping at Moran State Park.)

Activities Timeline:

Friday PM

• Arrive on Orcas Island, get settled at chosen accommodation, have dinner at Nichols/Yeaman home, 208 Hidden Ridge Trail from 5-10 pm

Saturday AM

• Breakfast on your own
• 9:00 - 9:30 Kickoff meeting at Yeaman Studio: Overview of "Abstract on Orcas Island"
• 9:30 - 11:00 "Contemplating the Design of Abstract Stone Sculpture" presentation and round robin discussion: led by Tom Small and Anthony Kaufmann
• 11:00 - 12:00 Abstract clay modelling by all attendees
• 12:00 - 1:00 Cold-cut lunch provided

Saturday PM

• 1:00 - 2:30 A survey of 20th and 21st century Abstract Stone Sculpture by Michael E. Yeaman
• 2:30 - 4:00 Individual abstract clay models presentation by attendees with group discussion
• 4:00 - 6:00 Orcas Island recreational free time (many organized/free form activities possible)
• 6:00 - 9:00 Dinner (on our own) or as a group in town

Sunday AM

• Breakfast on your own
• 9:00 - 10:30 Contemporary Studio Gallery Owner's Perspective on Abstract Stone Sculpture by Lynn White owner of Lynn White Contemporary Art Gallery, Orcas Island
• 10:30 - 12:00 Films and music about abstract stone art followed by group discussion
• 12:00 - 1:00 Cold-cut lunch provided

Sunday PM

• 1:00 on: More clay modelling and/or more discussions and/or more recreation on beautiful Orcas Island
• TBD pack up and head home
