President's Message

President's Message - Jan/Feb 2002

This is my last President’s message to all of you since someone else will be stepping into the position for 2002. The Board holds election of officers at the January Board meeting, but since I’m writing this before that time, I can’t say who your new Prez will be. Fortunately, due to the marvels of last minute updates, I believe the newsletter may be able to hold a space for that announcement along with the other officers for 2002. I can tell you that we had a great turnout of members running for the open Board positions. The first time in quite awhile that we have had more candidates than positions to fill. For those of you who did not get their ballots in to be counted, I’m sure this Board will still serve you well. Re-elected for another two year term were Ken Barnes and June Bloye. Newly elected for a two year term were Sharon Feeney, Lilli Smith, and Rick Johnson.

I’ve enjoyed being a part of helping this organization to do the things we do, and as I move out of my position, someone else steps in to help keep it all moving along. That’s the wonderful part of a volunteer organization, we all get a chance to lend a helping hand.

Happy sculpting.

President's Message - Nov/Dec 2001

So, here we are at the last newsletter of the year, and my last chance to nudge everyone about volunteerism. All I really want to say now is—good job! We seem to have people in place for all of our symposia next year, and, for the first time in many years, we have more people running for Board positions than we have open spots. Great response, everyone. Thanks to you all for stepping forward.

We also need people to volunteer to support those in responsible positions - both to lend a hand and to learn, so that  they will be able to take on more responsibility as others release it. This keeps the group working efficiently and provides you with an opportunity to lend a hand. We can all look forward to a great new year of events coming up, and I hope that you all have an opportunity to involve yourself in your organization, and enrich your life in the process.

And oh, I almost forgot— Happy sculpting.

President's Message - Sept/Oct 2001

As I post my Camp Brotherhood message, I would like to thank everyone involved for such a wonderful event. There were some great new additions, one of which was B. Amore as one of the guest instructors. She brought a wonderful new energy to our event. Also, our Artwalk showcase was a great opportunity to show our work and it was a terrific beginning for an ongoing event. Other new things in the works are an expanded web site with our own domain name, a number of members showing in the new sculpture park on San Juan Island, and a great member show at the Kirsten Gallery in Seattle.  We have had a wonderful year of workshops/symposia and the time to get ready for next year is already here. So, if you have an urge to help make next year even better than this one, run to that phone or keyboard and let us know where you would like to jump in.

Remember, it is 2002 Board member election time. Please be sure to mark and mail the enclosed ballot.

Happy sculpting.

President's Message - July/Aug 2001

I have been fortunate this year to be able to do more sculpting at home, rather than try and do it all at Camp Brotherhood, so I’m hoping to experience the social aspects of our summer gathering this time. I usually feel that I have to be productive at Camp B in my short sculpting time, and forget that there is so much to learn and experience without ever touching tool to stone. For an organization spread out over such a wide geographic area, Camp B is a wonderful opportunity for many of us to gather in one place to share our common interests. I would like thank all the people who help make our Camp B symposium happen. And for those of you who are new to our organization and have the time and energy to help any of our activities continue, remember that we always need new people to step in for those who need to step back. Don’t be shy, talk to a board member or committee person in the area that interests you. If you have thoughts of running for a board position, contact me and I’ll help talk you into it.

Happy sculpting.
