NWSSA Day at Marenakos Rock Center

Join members of the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association for a one-day introduction to the art of stone carving at the largest stone supply company in the NW!  NWSSA Day at Marenakos Rock Center

Schedule:

Greetings: 10:00 - 11:00
We'll kick off with a short introduction by Rich Hestekind, including a show and tell tour of some of the stone sculpture on display on the Marenakos sculpture grounds.

11:00 - 12:00
Kentaro Kojima will demonstrate stone splitting techniques and talk about hand carving tools and their uses. After the demonstration, we'll move to the shop and choose our carving stones for the afternoon hands-on workshop.

12:00 - 1:00
Lunch provided by Marenakos

Hands-on hand carving introduction. NWSSA will provide tools and the carving limestone will be provided by Marenakos. NWSSA members will be on hand to help the new carvers with tool choice, design, and technique. Attendees may keep the piece that they started and continue working on at home.


Power tools will be on display and may be demonstrated by professionals, but not used by the attendees.  Tools will be available for sale in the Marenakos Store.
