NWSSA History

1991 Was A Very Good Year

30 years ago we were in our 8th year as an organization. We were growing in number and feeling anything was possible. The Red Tent 1991

The Board of Directors included Vic Picou as President, Marie Carp as Treasurer, Bill Dilley and Everett DuPen. In April Marie Carp passed away. In May, Rich Hestekind, Michael Link, and Meredith Earls were added.

Dues were raised from $15 to $20. Our “Stone Source Directory”, compiled and edited by Karen Murphy, was reprinted and for sale for $7.00. The newsletter was renamed “Sculpture NorthWest” and moves from 4 pages to 6. Molly Greist and Anastasia Miller are the 1st featured artists. Discussion begins for the creation of a “Sculpture Center” for workshops, classes, exhibits, library/archives, and workspace.

Welcome to the Montana Special Issue of Sculpture NorthWest!
To honor their many contributions to the art of stone carving, we are taking the opportunity to present three NWSSA members in a single issue: Adrian Hoye, Renda Greene, and the ringleader of the gang, John Thompson.  We are grateful to them for representing the stone carving community in Missoula, MT, and for sharing their work with us here.
